Not enough friction to hold the GPS unit in place. It may risk damaging the GPS screen when drop to floor while impact something hard.

This case holds a 5″-diagonal TomTom GPS almost perfectly. It’s a bit snug, I still had to use the supplied velcro pads. The TomTom completely fills the case, so you can’t stuff the cord and plug in for storage.

But you don’t really need to protect the cord. The winning feature of this case is the physical protection it affords your GPS while in storage. It’s very useful to have a case that doubles as a display stand.

I’ve found that the case doesn’t have a lot of surface contact with a dashboard, so it doesn’t grip quite as well as a weighted pad does. But the case is definitely easier to store. While in use, it has a better chance of fitting in a cramped spot such as your car’s console. My old car has no console, and the case sits perfectly on the carpeted floor hump.

The case is fairly easy to open and close. However, it’s a little awkward to flip the weighted side of the case to its operational position, forming an approximately 280 degree angle with its lid.

The sandbag can be removed from its pocket in the case, but not easily. I never fully took it out, because I could tell that I’d have trouble stuffing it back in.

This item is outstanding! Before we got the Nav-Pack weighted GPS Dash Mount/Carrying Case we had the GPS just sitting on the dash. It would go flying every time we made a slight turn. This not only replaces the need for the windshield suction mount which restricts the line of vision. It also keeps the GPS in a protected case when not in use so I don’t have to worry about it being broken or harmed in any way. Now we just put the Nav-Pack on the dash with the GPS inside it and have no worries about it moving around and the windshield is clear. This is exactly what I was looking for to “mount” my GPS – very easy to use in the car and to remove and take with you or stow in the glove box.

I use this for travel, as I rent cars frequently, however, if you are going to fly with it, be prepared for delays at security. TSA will open your suitcase, take the Nav-Pack apart, check it over thoroughly and rerun it through the x-ray machine. Happens every time. Other minor gripe: the adhesive on the velcro strip is not very strong. In fact, the velcro is stronger. First time I went to take the GPS out of the Nav-Pack the GPS came out and the velcro strip stayed. I had to glue the strip on.

I have a Motorola GPS that comes with a window mount that turns out to be useless for my Toyota Venza. The Bracketron Nav-Pack is ideal in that I can place it on my dash board or console. The pack has enough weight combined with the rubber base to hold in place. I have not used it with a rental car but I don’t anticipate any problems or have concern with placing the weighted pack in my carry on luggage. It works for me and should for you.
