  2. Janet Segal says:

This is a great camera for someone on a budget. It is compact, lightweight, and just wonderful. It is not an HD camera, but for standard quality, it does a pretty good job! Just a tip – for mac users, use imovie to import.

I’m happy to report that this little gem also records with or without the lcd display opened, this is not what others have written, so, at least with my refurbished fs 200, this is not true – and for some people this can be huge. Glad I took the leap cuz this thing is just what I hoped it would be – and more. I also have a Canon 590is and sx20, and this rounds out the collection (for now)!

  4. W. Mattingly says:

What surprised the most was the zoom and the ease of use. It is also very compact.

Great for the family activity. I bought this camera based on Consumer Report reviews.

    Get one, you’ll love it.

  5. Oleg Belokoz says:

Camera is OK. Picture quality is fine when you set it to XP mode.

It’s too small to use for big hands and zoom button is very hard to reach with your finger, so every time you are trying to zoom in and out, video shakes alot. You hand will get numb in about 10 minutes just because of that zoom button positioning.

    Sound quality is surprizingly good.

The worst thing about this camera is software.

It has ancient Windows 3.1 look and functionality. Camere saves videos as .MOD files. If you want to bypass the whole software mess, just rename them into .AVI and use some other software to work with them. Camera saves sound in DD, so it will require a AC3 filter to download to play those in Windows Media Player. You might download some junky filter that will crash your computer every time you try to play the video in WMP or convert it with Window Media converter.

I tried to burt DVD with camera’s software – no luck. It only supports 1 type of DVD media and nothing else. I still unable to do it. So I gave up and will try Nero instead, at least Nero reads the type of DVD you put in the drive.

If you are not prepared to bypass the software and use “normal” tools to work with those videos, then it’s ok to buy it, otherwise stay away from it.

I’m as software engineer myself and I’m amazed that they can sell such and aweful piece of junk software to people. Shame.
