Very easy to use… Seems to be very accurate..love being able to download my routes and information..extremely happy with this purchase.
I need to preface this by stressing I rarely (shame on me) take the time to review the many many items I purchase from Amazon. That’s how much I’m in love w/this product!
I bought this on a whim when it was a Gold Box special. I’d been knowing I needed a heart rate monitor to make me accountable for my workout intensity, yet, at the same time, not really yet ready to be held accountable for my workout intensity (I’m kind of lazy, what can I say…). When I saw it offered in the Gold Box, I decided to give it a closer look. I spent quite a bit of time reading the reviews and product specs. Most seemed overwhelmingly favorable. For mere dollars more than a quality heart rate monitor, I could add all of the cool features of the Garmin, so i decided to pull the trigger and order one.
Boy, am I ever glad I did! I must admit, my husband did the initial set up (he was more excited about it when it arrived than I was…), so I can’t comment personally on ease of set up, but I know it only took him minutes. The first time I used it, I hadn’t customized the display and was worried I would hate it because the HR display was so tiny. I relayed my concern to my husband when I got home from my run and he promptly set my display to show total time, HR, distance, and pace. Love it!
I haven’t played with many of the features yet (courses, virtual running partner, etc) simply because, right now, it’s motivating me as is. I’ll save the *bells and whistles* for when I need to mix it up a bit.
PROS:
*Easy to customize and read display
*Seems super accurate for distance
*HR strap is as comfortable as any I’ve ever worn
*Easy to download to computer (we use a Macbook Pro)
*If you’re dressing up as Lindsay Lohan for Halloween it can double as a SCRAM bracelet
CONS:
*It kind of hurts, a bit. I have smaller wrists (my thumb overlaps the nail on my middle finger when circled around my wrist) and it’s actually bruised me a bit on both sides of my wrists. I don’t notice it if I’m walking, but I do when I’m running. However, I like it so much, I’m willing to deal w/the discomfort. I do play to buy some padding to adhere to the back to see if that helps (like lambskin).
I’ve barely scratched the surface of what this bad boy can do and I’m LOVING it! If you’re considering it at all, just do it!
I upgraded from the Polar brand due to having to replace the foot pod battery all the time and the heart monitor on the Polar was too much to deal with. Garmin did it right and I love the heart rate monitor and not having to deal with calibrating a foot pod. Thanks!
purchased this when i broke my wrist and had to start running to keep in shape. i hate running, but this watch really gives me inspiration to go put some miles on my feet. i like knowing how far i’ve run, and what my pace is. the real fun starts when i go home and download my workout onto my computer. so much information to cull over. highly recommended if you walk/run or even bike.
I will not dive into the benefits this product brings to help runners train. It has brought my running to new levels. The features are great! The benefits are fabulous. I am a much better runner because of this. I agree with all the positive reviews regarding these benefits. HOWEVER, the craftsmanship used by Garmin is SHAMEFUL. This product is intended to fail within 1 1/2 years by it’s design. Not the software or the computing, but the electrical components inside the watch itself.
I have a 205 and a 305. The 205 is 2 and a half years old; the 305 is almost 1 1/2 years old. My 205 stopped working last year about right after the 1 year warranty was up. No biggy, I wanted the 305 so it gave me a reason to purchase the 305. But when my 305 failed recently about 4 months after the warranty expired, I had my questions. Thus I opened up both watches to find out why they just wouldn’t power on any more. AND IT BECAME VERY OBVIOUS!
Garmin uses tiny, thin (thiner than aluminum foil) copper foil components that are used to connect the watch (the upper electronic portion) to the battery component (the lower body of the watch). No wires or solders contacts between these two components. Not only are the copper foil connections super thin, the are split at the ends where they contact the battery connections. Thus over time with the constant “on and off” spark , those tiny, split copper foil connecters will burn out and corrode and eventually “dissolve” into nothing.
Both my Garmins had this effect. The contacts were black, and disentigrated on a slight touch. Once I soldered a tiny wire for the contact that had failed, I had no problem. These products are intended to fail so you either buy a new one, or send it in to them the add the $1 part for a fee of $70 to $80. Design is not poor, it is purposeful!!! No reason not to use higher quality or thicker copper wire connections! Shame on Garmin!! But what other options do you have, right? Well, now you know, so open it up, fix it; seal it shut with form a gasket and keep on running.
