If you look for the best, get it! This charger save so many batteries that I was about to throw away, due to my other 15min charger rejected them.
Bottomline: This is how the charger should be, if you don’t mind paying more.
I had been using this charger (uneventfully but with some annoyance) for about six months when this afternoon, it malfunctioned and nearly caught fire. I heard a strange sound from the other room; upon investigation I realized that all eight batteries in the charger were bulging, sizzling, and smoking. Since it happened to all eight, I have to assume this was a charger problem, not a defective battery (I had used the batteries frequently for months). The charger was too hot to handle with bare hands. I’ll be replacing it with some other brand.
On the subject of using the charger pre-meltdown: It works but it’s annoying. It has the option to slow-charge the batteries, which is ostensibly better for them. Unfortunately, it won’t stay in the slow-charge mode between charges; if that’s your preferred mode of operation, then each time you must hold down the “slow charge” button while you insert the first battery in the leftmost slot. Clunky. Additionally, there’s a “conditioning” mode which you can engage only by hitting the “condition” button immediately after inserting the leftmost battery.
The charger also does not have an on/off switch, but remains brightly lit at all times – so if you don’t like wasting energy, you have to unplug it whenever it’s not in use. Of course, given the near-disaster in my kitchen this afternoon, maybe that’s a healthy precaution anyway!
I’d strongly recommend anyone shopping for a battery charger look at other options instead.
this is a quailty product. I bought it after having a baby and constantly needing batteries. I bought Tenergy Battery’s (AA, C, D) and it charges them effortly. I am always charging a combination of sizes and there is never a problem. It does fully charge the high capacitiy batteries and I did notice a difference between them. I would buy again.
This is the best charger I have ever used. I love the individual charging of the batteries, and the screen that lets you know when each battery is done. Also the reconditioning mode seems to work well. This thing charges D to AAA batteries. It is a little expensive but I think worth it if you charge a-lot.
It’s great to have individual readouts for each battery. My previous charger (a MAHA, but with 2 banks of 2) was unable to fully charge some of my batteries if one was low and the other was high. The MH-C808M does it perfectly.
I’ve only used AA and AAA so far. It’s too bad it is so big, but I got it because I might get some C and D size batteries in the future.
The Soft Charge and the mode where it depletes the battery both work very well. I wish the default was soft charge instead of “regular”, as MAHA even says in the manual that Soft is the best mode. But, I’m probably biased because my batteries are small and charge quickly.
