Nanny Cam's Item ID: #403Sharx Security VIPcella SCNC2606 Wifi Wireless 802.11g Security Network CameraProduct Information:
Item DescriptionThis Wifi b/g wireless IP camera has its own built in web server. You can view the video from your own home network or you can configure your router to view and control the camera from computers or cellphones on the internet, without dependence on any third party web sites or subscriptions. With the built-in microphone you can listen in. Excellent MPEG4 or MJPEG video quality at a full 640 x 480 resolution with up to 30 frames per second for fluid, natural motion color. For viewing or recording a single camera no software is required besides just your browser. For viewing or recording multiple Sharx IP cameras the included MultiView software for PCs supports up to 4 Sharx IP cameras simultaneously. Truly amazing to see the streaming video on your web enabled cell phone. For frequent use we recommend to upgrade your cellphone service to unlimited data, which costs just $15/mo extra on the ATT network. You can see motion even on non-3G phones like SonyEricsson w580i. If your phone does not support video you can see automatically refreshing JPEG images. At home, you can use this camera with your laptop or iPhone as a baby or pet monitor, and the very high light sensitivity in “moonlight mode” allows you to view out from a window to see what’s happening in the street as long as there is some background light available. For night vision in absolute, total darkness with no visible light, upgrade to SCNC2607 which adds infrared night vision and a higher quality, wide angle lens. Wireless operation supports WEP, WPA, WPA2 encryption. On routers with UPnP feature the camera can set itself up automatically, and on routers without UPnP (such as Apple’s Airport series) the camera can be set up with our step by step instructions. I bought 3 sharx cameras to watch my new nanny. the set up is very easy, just read the enclosed user manual and follow the directions. within 15 mins i got the video image live on my home computer. the cameras are installed in living room, baby bed room and dining room. all 3 video can be seen in one control window. (i use the app called Multilive, which is included in the setup CD)
i emailed the web addresses of the cameras to my friends, they tried it and everything worked well for them too.
to watch the live video at my work though, is another story. my company has very good firewall, blocking pretty much every port. each of my cameras need an open port to work. port 80 is common for internet use, tried that first and it worked. if you experience the same difficulty watching the video from work, just try the following steps: in the camera setting screen, click network, then click UPNP. change the external HTTP/RTSP port range to 80 — 80. for multiple cameras, you need to contact your IT department to see what other port numbers are available. try 8080 and 1755, they are common open ports.
This product is fantastic. It is packed with a lot of great features. Even though there are a lot of advanced features, as long as you have the most basic knowledge about your network, you will have no problem setting this thing up and running in no time at all. I was totally amazed at the amount of detail in the manual. It is written in English (not dumb pictures that make no sense) and is full of detail. It talks about iPhone Apps you can use and third party websites to register your home IP Address automatically so you can always access the camera from outside your house. Everything you could want to do with this camera is discussed in great detail in the manual, I cannot tell you how impressed I was in this day and age of weak user guides that are just basic pictures and that is supposed to tell you how some advanced piece of networking gear is supposed to work. Great job Sharx, you earned my future business. Oh, and the email support was prompt and full of detailed information and that was on a weekend.
I ended up purchasing this directly through the vendor to save a step of updating the firmware as soon as I received it. I contacted their customer service before my decision to purchase to clarify some questions – they were extremely quick in their response and very knowledgeable too. They told me that if purchased from their website, the cameras would ship with the latest firmware. He also explained the new features that have been added with the new firmware (periodically transferring files from the sd card to an ftp server and clearing out the card for further recording was a key one).
Why I purchased this camera – I did a lot of web research and narrowed it to this camera and a panasonic. I purchased the panosonic camera first since it had PTZ -unfortunately, I could only record on my PC with that camera’s software – and when the recording was active, my PC would slow to a crawl (a fairly new PC with a quad core processor and plenty of RAM). Even viewing the camera using the software would slow down my PC (access through browser was okay).
Therefore, I wanted a camera that could record directly to a microSD card to avoid having a PC tied up for recording. It does have a microphone and can do motion sensing – the description in Amazon does not provide in-depth details – talking to Sharx customer service before purchaing was very useful in this regard. I wish it had PTZ also but that was not a deal breaker for me – I was able to place the camera on top of a shelf to get a wide view of my room.
This camera meets all my requirements – fantastic picture quality, very easy to setup, records to a microSD card. I am fairly tech savvy and am somewhat familiar with router setup – so setting up access from the internet using port forwarding was not an issue. Nevertheless, the manual that comes with it is very detailed. I use ethernet over power to have a wired hookup for this camera – although I did test the wireless functionality and it was flawless.
I have had the camera for a few weeks now- I have motion sense recording done for a few hours every week. I get regular snapshots by email during the time slots I have setup for monitoring. Haven’t had a single issue to date. Unless you absolutely need PTZ I would recommend this camera over the panasonic. Overall, a great camera.
I bought this camera based on a little research and am using it primarily with a MAC and some software for home security. The camera was very simple to setup and I have to say, the instructions that came with it, have to be some of the best instructions and simple to follow that I’ve ever seen. I setup the camera using an attached ethernet cable first, but I use it completely wireless now. I’ve learned over the years, some of these standalone wireless devices are just easier to setup with an attached connection first then trying to setup wireless from the get go.
now, why 4 stars and not 5. Well, in G mode it is a little grainy and people walking in front of the camera I have to wonder how clear a shot I would get of someone’s face, I have it too far away to really get that, but I wanted to cover a large area of the house. Also, this camera needs light. There is no good shot with the lights off at night, might as well be looking at a black room, I was surprised visibility was this poor, but I think all these cameras will only be able to do that much. If you really want night vision, you have to get the infrared version.
I have to say, you really won’t understand how great this camera is unless you try other ones. First off – this camera is 640×480! There’s one I saw her called “DropCam” that seemed cool. But it’s a 320×240 resolution camera AND you may have to pay per month! I looked through a lot of IP cameras before deciding on this one. Even though I’ve not owned other IP cameras, you can tell this is the best one just by researching. I’ve not needed support but they seem to be responsive.
This camera puts out 680×480 resolution. Amazing quality! I love that I can access on my laptop remotely through a web address (for free) and through my Palm Pre, or any other mobile phone with a good data plan. One small gripe is that I can’t get anything higher than a 176×144 resolution for your phone, but it’s no biggie. You can still see a great picture/video.
Setup was easy. Plug your camera into your router via ethernet cable. Enter the IP address (determined by router) and enter admin for user and admin for password and you’re in. Change whatever settings you need but make sure you connect to your wireless network under “wireless.” Let it search and enter the password and you’re up and running. (Follow instructions if any issues). I got it up and running in 5 minutes.
Even though it’s an indoor camera I have it hanging outdoors under my roof to watch my driveway since we think people might be walking through to get to our backyard.
Lastly, did I mention there’s audio?! Many other wireless IP cams don’t even offer this. You can adjust the volume remotely if you want to. All settings are adjustable from wherever you are. PLUS – all 2010 models now have a SD card option that will auto-record via motion detection and you can access controls/media remotely (i think you can delete content, etc all remotely so you don’t need to pull out the card to do so). Amazing.
I’m really glad I got this camera. It has great picture quality, many web features, and all at an amazing price. I got it via Ebay through Secure Camera direct (although you can’t tell it’s them) and used Bing Cashback for 8%+ off depending on the special. It’s $229.xx minus cashback and then free shipping (no tax). Awesome!

I just had a support call because I wanted to see if I could get higher resolution on my Palm Pre. They helped me to connect to another link where I was able to get 320 x 240 resolution on my phone. It was so much clearer. Love it. They also said they would give me an outdoor version of this camera for the same price if I wanted it (it was just released) or if this camera ever messed up b/c I have it outdoors, they’d replace it for me with the outdoor version. Awesome!
