I’m no private investigator, but I found the information in this book a handy resource to have around the office. While it is true that someone who is experienced in finding information on the net could find most of this information by doing a little homework, I find that it is convenient to have it at my fingertips when I want it without having to spend time searching for different things. There are a multitude of reasons that this little book could come in handy. I think that this book is a great resource for everyone to keep around the house just in case. I found it very interesting and recommend it. It is packed full of interesting facts and information!
Bohdi Sanders, author of Warrior Wisdom: Ageless Wisdom for the Modern Warrior
I think this is a must own of you are getting into skip tracing or PI.
Not that useful for the average joe…
Ever watch shows or read books of PIs, and wonder if all that babbletalk is for real, or just that, BS that just sounds cool but isn’t real? I have, and while I know some things are true and false, there’s a lot that I’m totally missing that most shows or books don’t reveal. Especially if based in fact. In TV and books, all the nitty-gritty details, while important but not glitzy and something that the everyday man and woman has no idea is possible, is always brushed off and it’s the small things, the things that no one else is aware of that can crack the case.
Scott’s little black book of secrets is a gem, but only if you know what the heck he’s talking about in the first place. For those of you just passing through and indulging a mere curiosity, you will be shaking your head at some of the seemingly uninteresting and irrelevant info held within, but for those in the know, as I’ve found out, are kernels of the little tricks of the trade and real gems when employed in the real world.
There is no index or glossary of terms. You’re on your own on that, but the book is divided into three VERY GENERALIZED sections:
–>Sources of Information A-Z: beware, there is some outdated information in some of these entries, which Scott owns up to and I’m still not, but written prior so it’s iffy on what is updated and not throughout, nevertheless, still interesting info and can start you on the right path. Unlike a dictionary, you actually have to know what you’re looking for or you’ll have to read the whole thing and mark what interests you.
–>Reference Guide: now this was a real gem, including various codes, such as for government and defense agencies, area and country, companies, federal reserve and airport codes; common government and country abbreviations; info on bank accounts; social security numbers, VIN numbers, vehicle info, and how to get access to these numbers and how belongs to them, etc. It’s endless and I enjoyed just leafing through this section in particular.
–>Privacy Law Survival Guide: Now this is probably the most practical, standard and still commonly used, even with whatever updates various governments have redone. It includes surveillance, diplomatic immunity, reports, various privacy laws, etc, and in the following format: Summary, Penalty for Violation, Practical Tips and the Law(s).
Unless you’re serious or doing this for research purposes, it’ll just make you grimace and not want to look through but it’s worth a once over because it’s got some very practical and sensible pages of information that everyday citizens should be aware of. Things that a complete stranger off the street could do to or for you. If anything, it’s a handy reference book when watching all those shows or reading those books because now, you’re truly in the know.
This is a well written book and is a must read for anyone seeking information.
I bought this as a gift for a loved one and they loved it. They work as a private investigator in New York and said they will get a lot of use out of the book.
