I love Webroot antivirus. Their products work wonderfully and have easy to understand menus. I have had great experiences with Webroot products and even participated in the beta testing for new products. Being short on cash, I recently purchased this at Target as opposed to the more expensive version. I should have bought the expensive one. I have Windows Vista, and this program has compatibility issues with newer Operating Systems (even though it says it’s compatible with Windows 7). The BIG problem I have run into (only having this installed for 4 days now) is issues with opening context menus (a.k.a. right-clicking anything in Windows Explorer). Right-clicking causes Windows Explorer to crash and reboot because the “Custom Sweep” option they added to every context menu is not compatible with anything later than Windows XP.
I have troubleshooted this problem using a program called ShellExView, a solution I found in a google search. It worked great and pinpointed my problem.
Overall, if you can deal with the hassle it’s a fine product. However, if you’re not so computer savvy and don’t want to deal with all the technicalities, I would recommend the new Webroot product over this one.
Webroot is the best anti-spyware/virus software I have ever used. Tried other programs like Norton & with Webroot it doesn’t bog down or slow your computer. Very easy to install as well as use. Keeps your computer running smoothly. Love it wouldn’t use any other!
I ordered this software 2 years ago. Apparently, they have a policy of auto renewing your software. You have to OPT out to not be charged automatically.
I do not know if I was charged last year for a renewal. I got an e-mail this month saying they would charge my credit card unless I logged in with my Keycode and opted out! The keycode I have stored does not fit into the spaces allotted for this.
Guess how bad their company must be doing in order to trick people into paying for a renewal?
These people have no integrity. Look them up on the net for complaints about their auto renewal.
I installed the software and it slowed my Gateway Netbook to the point of it being useless. I tried the Web support and was hopeful when I got an em telling me: “We believe that we have diagnosed your issue and are sending you a suggested solution.” My enthusiasm quickly waned when I read the so called solution: “Please call 1-866-612-4227 Monday through Friday between the hours of 7am and 6pm MT and one of our agents will be able to assist you.” Nevertheless I dutifully called, and was told that as one of the unfortunate users who try to get free assistance the waiting time would be 25mn. At that point I gave up. If anybody knows how to exersice the “30-day money back guarantee” my em is “louisyp@aol.com”.
Years ago we had Webroot Spyware software. We were happy with it. When they made the switch mixing both spyware and anti virus together, the reviews were not all that great so we made the switch to another product.
Checking out Webroot anti virus with spyware, 2010, the reviews seem to show it was one of the better ones on the market for the price. Bought it and installed it on three of our home computers, all with XP home edition. All with always connected cable internet. A month has now gone by.
While both the anti virus and the spyware appear to do a good job, what is a problem is the automatic updating of the definitions. You are given two choices here if not using a proxy server which we are not. The two options are to get definitions once a day, or hourly. Only one of the computers will get the definitions all by itself. Even then, it is a hit and miss no matter which option is used for updating. The other two computers will not update no matter which option is used. They will update fine if we do it manually. They just have will not update on their own.
Reading more about this product on the web, I have learned where this has been an issue with others as well. Contacting their customer service has proved to be most aggravating. All we get is the automatic response saying we should except to hear back with an answer in 24 hours. Never have heard back and we have sent out several letters to Webroot. Each time, receiving the automatic response but there it stops.
There is also a problem with a delay in starting up the program when booting up. Shutting down has also been a problem, we get the message that it is not responding and have to use the “end now” command to shut down the computer.
As far as easy of use goes, for a person with limited computer skills, it is pretty much fool proof. Unless you have problems with updates that is. The options are rather limited to what you can and can not do. So if you are one of those who likes to get under the hood, you will be in for a let down.
Right now, when our one year term is up, we will not renew with Webroot. Just too BUGGY.
