I bought this camera from Valuelink which said it came with free phone support. I couldn’t get it to work properly and the instruction manual was very limited and confusing. I contacted Valuelink for the phone number for support but got no response. So I contacted the other seller on here IPcam Central. They contacted me back same day and even though I didn’t purchase it from them, they helped me to install it correctly. They even followed up to make sure it was running correctly. The product itself is great but you will need support to set it up…so make sure to buy from IPcam Central because their customer service is out of this world! I am going to buy more cameras in the future and will make sure to only buy from them.

    Pros –

+ simple setup. Works with Firefox and in Linux ( after some tweaking with Zoneminder ) and Mac and iPhone !!!

+ works well. You can Pan Tilt Zoom remotely. Picture quality is acceptable.

    + night vision works well.

+ contrast/brightness changes appropriately when switching from indoor view to outdoor view

    + nice and compact

+ can email/ftp when motion sensor is tripped AND can report via email when your external IP changes !!

+ has great range of motion 270 degrees Pan and 120 degrees of Tilt. More than adequate to cover a large range

+ can push it in continuous pan/tilt mode which swivel scanning. great for easily expanding your range when you place it at corner of your house

    + wireless !! Yay !

    + price is reasonable

+ (I’ve heard) great customer support

    Cons -

    - Linux support missing audio

    - Windows/IE ActiveX needed for full features with sound.

    - Picture quality can be better in these days. Should’ve come with like 2MP camera or even 3.2 MP camera. 2MP and 3MP cameras are cheap now and offer enough resolution to identify faces clearly

    - does not have good motion sensor detection. At 10, it detects up to 15 feet, at 5, its almost nothing

    - does not capture video when motion sensor is tripped. Ideally it should record a 30sec video clip and upload that instead of snapping away blurry pictures

    - motion detector resolution is slightly low. Did not catch me back my car out of the driveway. Should’ve. But I was approx. 45 feet away so its perhaps beyond the range of this product.

    - Network blinking light couldn’t be turned off from the web. I had to search on Bing and find a solution to shut it off

Overall, I would wholeheartedly recommend this product. For this price range, it cannot get any better than this. I would rate this overall an 8/10 since most of my negative points apply to almost every other device in this category.

I won’t give it 5 stars because the image has “curves” or bends,

    seems like a bad lens.

I finally got it working in wireless mode. Here’s the secret.

Instruction “unplug, and plug back in for 30 seconds” is wrong.

It is about 120 seconds before my computer “sees” the camera. And the instruction on UPnP needs to be changed. Just click “enable” on both the camera, and the wireless router, then ignore the “in conflict” message. So don’t look for the “UPnP success” message. Also, needs to remove the firewall on the wireless router , and the wireless router needs to be re-booted from the computer. Of course, set up the WEP security.

I discovered my Belkin wireless router kicks out / disconnects the camera.

And I have to reboot the router for the camera to work/be recognized.

I set my camera’s port to 50010, ip address to xxx.xxx.x.100 and

in the router, the virtual mapping – in port (from outside) at 8080, internal/private port to 50010.

Have to set up the Dyndns account.

May not be able to access this at work because the camera requires your computer to install a file, which my employer’s IT guys would block. But at least you can save a snapshot and see the place. Don’t know if the “panning” is locked if the access is blocked.

This camera overall is awesome, barring the fact that the actual software is only so-so. The online configuration tool is good though. I can view my camera from work and control the pan/tilt/zoom over the `net as well. Pretty cool. I suggest using a third party tool, though as the recording capabilities of the software leave much to be desired. Also, this camera is a bit large, so hiding it will a little difficult for those looking for something covert. I have it on my garage and you can definitely see it from the street, which is fine. I would rather have it be in the open and act as a deterrent anyway.

The camera’s PTZ controls are really responsive and the video I get is smooth. I have it on a wired network as the wireless didn’t work from my office to the garage, which are about 60-70 feet away from each other and through 4 walls. The wireless DOES work well, just not at that distance. Your mileage may vary. I tested the wireless down my long hallway with has a clear shot to my office and is about 50 feet long and it works. Its just not good at receiving the signal through walls very well. That’s most likely because of the type of router I have. Other than that, this camera is pretty sweet.

I bought one of these to keep an eye on the dog/house while we’re gone. I chose this one because of the relative price. Overall I’m very pleased.

    Pros:

-Setup of wireless authentication type and password was smooth (plug it in to the network directly the first time though), setup of alarm mail sending also easy. I have a port forwarding entry in my router for the camera, and my router already updates its IP address to Dyndns, so accessing the camera remotely was also quick to setup.

-pan/tilt works pretty well through the web interface.

-nightvision is awesome, and the infrared leds, though noticeable, are much less so than on other cameras I’ve seen.

    Some cons:

-audio is only usable through the IE/activex page, not the plain firefox page

-motion detection sensitivity level doesn’t work well – at 10 you get notified for everything, but then at 5,8,9 I’ve walked across the room and it doesn’t pick it up, so I end up leaving it at 10 and delete a lot of the notificition emails

-it’s taking screencaps from a movie basically, so often the snapshots the alarm sends you are blurred, depending on how fast the person was walking through the room

-whitebalance detection could be better, the walls in its room are painted red and that affects the hues of all the colors viewed through the camera.

-software on the camera has crashed or locked up twice a month, requiring you to physically unplug and replug in the camera to reset it

-ignored my setting of “do not flash the bright green light” on the front bottom, so I have electrical tape over it.

-pan/tilt makes a noticeable whirring sound, alerting people they’re being watched

Overall this tends to be the cheapest camera in this class on Amazon, and I find it worth the price.
